Growing Creatively for Good:

The Solvent Group Welcomes New Team Member

We recently welcomed Meg McQuade Boyle to The Solvent Group team. As The Solvent Group’s Strategic Communications Specialist and Lead Writer, Meg ensures that our client’s narratives are compelling and aligned with their brands. Drawing from 20 years of experience in development and marketing, Meg helps our clients communicate a value proposition that informs and inspires. Leading with a commitment to authentic storytelling, Meg is a wordsmith with heart. We love getting to know Meg–and we hope you do, too.

MORE ABOUT MEG:

How did you get your start in nonprofits?

I started my career in Washington, D.C., working in program development for an energetic women’s organization. As we know all too well, embarking on a career in the nonprofit sector gives you a chance to sample it all: advocacy, writing, events planning, and fundraising. Over time, I migrated from the programs side of the house to the development side, moving my love of  results-driven advocacy over to donor stewardship and communications. Over the course of a decade, I served as an alumni relations director and a communications director within the secondary school marketplace. Each of these experiences equipped me with the empathy–and the expertise–to understand the support that nonprofits need the most.

You spent many years in private and public sector marketing. How did that prepare you for your return to nonprofit communications?

While the aims of the private, public, and nonprofit sectors are different, the need for focused communications is the same. Consumers–and donors–expect you to communicate your value proposition clearly, across a variety of platforms. Data-driven stories and unique engagement opportunities are what discerning donors and consumers seek today. Keeping your impact top-of-mind correlates to donor commitment.

What do you love most about The Solvent Group team?

Being surrounded by smart people who put their best energies to work for their clients. From fundraising strategy, coaching, strategic planning, and to operations, each team member approaches a project with a different lens. We put those lenses together to create a cohesive pathway forward. As a team, we debate approaches and arrive at decisions that make the most sense for our clients. Everyone shapes the trajectory, and that’s rewarding.

Where’s home?

How much time have you allotted for this part of our conversation? Just kidding!

I was born and raised in a small town in central Massachusetts (yes: I am a Red Sox fan with all of the trimmings). But I was born with wanderlust and a craving for unique life experiences. A decade-plus stint in the Baltimore-Washington area gave way to six years in Great Britain, eventually putting down roots in the Deep South. Home is a feeling more than a place. It’s not a brick and mortar building–it’s a space where I hold memories and make new ones with my husband and 13-year-old son!

What would surprise us about you?

I have a long-standing fear of clowns! It’s the result of being trapped in a clown car in the Ringling Brothers and Barnum Bailey Circus onstage as a kid (long story for a different day).

How do you decompress?

I love to cook and entertain. I can pair a tasty risotto with a solid playlist that includes REM, Dave Brubeck, Amy Winehouse, and Tom Petty all in equal measure.
